VFS Campus Digital Signs

We were asked to provide a proposal on how to enhance the existing Vancouver Film School brand identity and  way-finding program and manifest them in terms of the following mediums; location specific digital light and media installations, interior and exterior digital signage platforms, a LCD screen based VFS (RSS) ‘info channel’, a visual standardization of all department reception areas, vinyl lettering placards, wall re-enforcement for all high traffic areas, and paint/carpet upgrades.

responsive light sign

As VFS is a digital media training centre, the key entry areas to each building should reflect a mastery and inventiveness with this form. We proposed to create cost-effective LED light and ‘reactive graphics’ based media installations that are tied into existing VFS exterior signs.

The goal of the project would be enhanced visual stimulus for the students, and a sense of relevance within the ‘state of the art’ in digital media.

This exterior sign could change colour and movement by watching passers by..

This sign for the film department at VFS, would be made of perforated steel and receive a flickering projection at night from the building across the street.

evaluating needs of another program on-site

we also proposed a needs analysis spectrum that would help study the needs of the various sites on-campus so we could evaluate how our proposal was meeting the requirements of the VFS “way-finding program” that had just been completed by the operations department of the school.
